Privacy Policy

This policy explains what happens to information when you use ToolBoxGenie at https://www.toolboxgenie.com. It is written to be read, not to be survived.

The short version

• The tools run entirely in your browser. The text, numbers and files you put into them are never sent to us.
• We do not ask for or hold accounts, names or email addresses.
• We show advertising through Google AdSense, which sets cookies and may use your data as described below.
• We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages get used. It measures pages and traffic sources, not the contents of a tool.
• One local preference — your light or dark theme choice — is stored on your own device and never transmitted.

What you type into a tool

Every calculator, converter, text tool and developer utility on this site executes as JavaScript inside your browser tab. When you paste JSON into the formatter or enter a salary into a loan calculator, that data is processed on your device and discarded when you close or reload the page.

There is no upload endpoint. This is not a promise about how we handle your data on a server — it is a statement that no such transfer happens in the first place. Any tool added in future that reads a file will work the same way: read from disk into browser memory, transformed locally and written back to your downloads folder without a network request.

This applies to every tool currently on the site without exception. An earlier version of this page carved out an API tester, which sent the request you built to the third-party address you typed; that tool has been removed, and with it the exception. If a tool that must use the network is ever added, it will be named here in the same change that adds it — a privacy statement that is true of most pages and false on one is not a privacy statement worth having.

Information collected automatically

Like any website, our hosting provider records standard technical information when a page is requested: the IP address making the request, the page requested, the time, the referring page and your browser’s user-agent string. These server logs are used for security and to diagnose faults, and are retained for a limited period.

Local storage on your device

ToolBoxGenie stores a single value in your browser’s local storage: your theme preference, so the site does not flash the wrong colour scheme on your next visit. It contains no identifier, is readable only by this site, and can be cleared at any time through your browser settings.

That is the only thing we put on your device. It is not the only thing stored by the site as a whole: Google Analytics and Google AdSense both set their own cookies, which are described in the sections below along with how to refuse or remove them.

Advertising

This site is free and funded by advertising served through Google AdSense. Advertising partners operate independently of us and their data practices are governed by their own policies.

• Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
• Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visits to this site and other sites on the internet.
• You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings, or opt out of third-party vendor cookies at aboutads.info.
• Advertising partners never receive the contents of a tool. What you type into a calculator or text box is not exposed to the advertising script, because it is never sent anywhere.

You can control or refuse advertising cookies at any time using the links above and your browser’s own cookie settings. Those controls are always available and do not depend on anything this site does.

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, personalised advertising requires your consent. Where a consent message is presented before ads load, your choice is recorded by the advertising vendor rather than by us. You can reopen that message at any time to change or withdraw your choice using the Cookie settings link in the footer of every page, which appears whenever a consent message applies to you. If no such message appears, personalised advertising is not being served to you on that basis, and the opt-out links above remain the way to control what Google’s advertising cookies are used for.

Analytics

ToolBoxGenie uses Google Analytics 4 to understand how the site is used — how many people visit, which tools they open, which pages they arrive on and leave from, roughly where in the world they are, and which sites or searches sent them here. It is how we decide which tools to build next and which pages need fixing.

Google Analytics sets cookies and processes data on Google’s infrastructure as an independent provider, under Google’s privacy policy. The information it collects is the ordinary set: pages viewed, time on them, approximate location derived from your IP address, device and browser type, and referral source. Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses in reports.

What you type into a tool is not part of this and never reaches Google Analytics. The measurement on this site is the standard Google tag with no additions: there are no custom events, no custom dimensions and no parameters of our own anywhere in the code. Nothing reads a calculator field, a text box or a converter input, and nothing puts a value from one into a URL, a page title or an event. That is a property of how the site is built rather than a setting we could quietly change — the tools hold what you type in the page’s own memory and never put it anywhere an analytics script could see it.

One thing does deserve naming precisely, because it is the single place where something you type appears in a web address. Searching from the box in the site header loads a results page with your search term in the URL, and Google Analytics records site searches. That box searches the names and descriptions of tools on this site — it is not connected to any calculator or text tool, and nothing you enter into a tool goes through it.

You can opt out of Google Analytics entirely by installing Google’s official opt-out browser add-on, which blocks it on every site you visit, or by blocking analytics cookies and scripts in your browser or an extension. The site works identically either way — no tool depends on analytics, and nothing is withheld from you for opting out.

Children

This site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. We ask for no names, addresses or accounts anywhere on the site, and nothing entered into a tool is collected at all. If you believe a child has provided information to us, please get in touch.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete or restrict the processing of personal data about you. We hold no accounts and no user records, so there is generally nothing for us to retrieve or erase — but the analytics and advertising data described above is processed by Google using its own identifiers, and requests about it are handled by Google rather than by us.

The most direct controls available to you are the ones linked in the sections above: the Google Analytics opt-out add-on, Google Ads Settings, the vendor opt-out page, and your browser’s own cookie controls. None of them require our involvement, and none of them affect your access to any tool. You are also welcome to contact us with a question about any of this.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes materially, the date at the top of this page will be updated. Continued use of the site after a change constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
