Discount Calculator
Calculators · Added 4 July 2026
Enter an original price and a discount to see exactly what you pay and what you save. You can also run it in reverse — give it the original and sale prices and it will tell you the real percentage off, which is often less impressive than the sticker suggests.
How to use the discount calculator
- 1Pick a mode: calculate the sale price, or work out the discount percentage from two prices.
- 2Enter the figures.
- 3Optionally add a second discount to model a 'extra 10% at checkout' offer.
- 4The saving, final price and effective discount are shown together.

About the discount calculator
Reading a sale honestly
Retail pricing is designed to make a saving feel larger than it is. A '50% off' banner over a price that was quietly raised the previous month is the oldest trick in the business, which is why many jurisdictions require the reference price to have been genuinely charged for a set period.
The defence is arithmetic. Work out the actual amount you keep in your pocket, not the percentage on the sign. A 60% discount on something you did not need is a 100% waste; a 10% discount on a large, necessary purchase can be worth far more in cash.
Buy-one-get-one and other disguises
Offers are often framed to avoid stating a percentage. Buy one get one free is a 50% discount, provided you actually want two. Buy two get one free is 33.3%. 'Three for the price of two' is the same 33.3% wearing a different hat.
Converting every offer to a single per-unit price is the only way to compare them. Once everything is expressed as cost per item, the ranking is usually obvious and frequently surprising.
