US and imperial measures share names but not sizes: an imperial pint is 568 ml against the US pint's 473 ml, and an imperial gallon is about 20% larger than a US one. Pick the family your recipe or spec actually uses.

About the volume converter
Three systems sharing one vocabulary
Volume is the messiest quantity to convert, because US customary and imperial units use identical names for different sizes. Gallon, quart, pint and fluid ounce all exist in both systems and none of them match. Metric units are unambiguous by comparison: a litre is a litre everywhere.
The practical rule is to establish which system your source uses before converting anything. A recipe from an American site uses US cups and fluid ounces; a British cookbook uses imperial pints and often metric grams alongside them. Getting this wrong changes quantities by 20%, which matters in baking and barely shows in a stew.
Cooking, and why volume measures cause trouble
American recipes measure dry ingredients by volume — cups of flour, cups of sugar — while most of the rest of the world weighs them. Volume is a poor proxy for quantity with anything compressible: a cup of flour can vary by 20% depending on whether it was scooped or spooned into the cup.
Converting the volume accurately, as this tool does, is only half the job. If you can, weigh the ingredient instead: a cup of flour is about 120 g, a cup of granulated sugar about 200 g, and a cup of water exactly 236.6 g. Those substitutions remove the packing problem entirely.
